An Owner's ManualBy
This delighful and descriptive book contains stories and information from a seasoned gynecologist, as told to her daughter. There is more to the vagina than your mother told you – unless your mother has been a practicing gynecologist for over twenty years. Here is a book all women must read: the first fun, thorough, and revealing “owner’s manual” for your vagina, written by an ob-gyn and her daughter. Packed with facts but never dull, Vaginas covers periods, pregnancy, how to keep healthy, STDs, birth control, mishaps, when (and when not) to be worried, abortion, hot flashes, ways to keep an aging body performing, and the fun stuff - sex.
This empowering, sex-positive guide to womanhood is for anyone who has ever found herself uninformed or misinformed about her own machinery. Topp, a single, 20-something writer, teams up with her mother, Livoti, a seasoned gynecologist, to demystify the female reproductive system. The younger author felt lucky to grow up with a mother who was knowledgeable and forthcoming about the female anatomy, especially when she reached her teen years and realized that most of her friends weren't so lucky. Too many women are uncomfortable discussing their private parts with friends or even doctors, say the authors, and this can lead to misconceptions about their own bodies. Despite the catchy title, this is a deep examination of the body. Starting with an overview of the basic organs, then moving into menstruation, maintenance, menopause and medical problems, the authors investigate every nook and cranny of those elusive female parts. They explore sex, contraception, STDs and abortion from a nonjudgmental, pro-choice, woman-to-woman perspective. Although the snippets of banter between mother and daughter (as well as the anecdotes from the life of an ob-gyn) add little, this is a never condescending and always articulate resource.

A Declaration of IndependenceBy
An ancient title of respect for women, the word "cunt" long ago veered off this noble path. Inga Musico traces the road from honor to expletive, giving women the motivation and tools to claim "cunt" as a positive and powerful force in their lives. With humor and candor, she shares her own history as she explores the cultural forces that influence women's relationships with their bodies.
In 1973, Dr. Betty Dodson spoke at the first NOW Conference on Women's Sexuality. In the conference flyer, she called her presentation "Creating an Aesthetic for the Female Genitals," which, she says, was the academic way of saying "Becoming Cunt Positive."
Inga Musico is sending out a call for every woman to be the Cuntlovin' Ruler of Her Sexual Universe, Musico stands convention on its head by embracing all things cuntrelated.
“Bright, sharp, empowering, long-lasting, useful, sexy....” —San Francisco Chronicle
“... Cunt provides fertile ground for psychological growth.” —San Francisco Bay Guardian
“Cunt does for feminism what smoothies did for high-fiber diets—it reinvents the oft-indigestible into something sweet and delicious.” —Bust Magazine

Based on interviews with over 200 women about their memories and experiences of sexuality, The Vagina Monologues gives voice to women's deepest fantasies and fears, guaranteeing that no one who reads it will ever look at a woman's body, or think of sex, in quite the same way again. It is witty and irreverent, compassionate and wise. "At first women were reluctant to talk," Ensler writes. "They were a little shy. But once they got going, you couldn't stop them."
Eve Ensler -- Obie Award-winning playwright of The Vagina Monologues and Necessary Targets --initiated V-Day, a global movement to stop violence against women.
"I say vagina because I want people to respond," says playwright Eve Ensler, creator of the hilarious, disturbing soliloquies in The Vagina Monologues, a book based on her one-woman play. And respond they do--with horror, anger, censure, and sparks of wonder and pleasure. Ensler is on a fervent mission to elevate and celebrate this much mumbled-about body part.
"Women have entrusted Eve with their most intimate experiences,
from sex to birthing. . . . I think readers, men as well as women,
will emerge from these pages feeling more free within themselves
-- and about each other."
"Eve Ensler is the Pied Piper. She is leading women and the world
to a different consciousness of the essence of women."
"I feel my life has changed. You don't just hook up with Eve, you
become part of her crusade. There's a corps of us who are Eve's
"The monologues are part of Eve Ensler's crusade to wipe out the
shame and embarrassment that many women still associate with
their bodies or their sexuality. They are both a celebration of
women's sexuality and a condemnation of its violation."
--The New York Times
"Spellbinding, funny, and almost unbearably moving. . . . Written
with a bluntness that is nevertheless intensely lyrical, it is both a
work of art and an incisive piece of cultural history, a poem and a
polemic, a performance and a balm and a benediction."
"Frank, humorous and moving . . . a compelling rhapsody of the
female essence. Ultimately, Ensler achieves something
